Hey guys! Today’s topic is “Communication with your host-family”.

Here are my five tips to improve communication with your host-family:

Tip #1: Set-up a weekly status meeting with your host-parents or with the one person that you mainly work with.
Tip #2: Talk to them about what happened during the week. They are interested in their kids and your experiences!

Tip #3: Ask them for ideas of what to do with the kids.
Goodie: Talk to them about the Summer ideas for kids from camps to workshops and create a plan for the kids summer together!

Tip #4: Ask them what they would like you to do different and don’t be offended of what they may be saying.

Tip #5: Ask them for their help and for directions. We all really enjoy it when we are being asked for help by somebody else and can help them and so does your host-family. So don’t worry about asking for help.

Remember to use kind words when you talk to them. It is their kids, you are still working for them but you both want to have a great experience. So the language you use in communication can make a huge difference in getting your point across and getting both of you to feel comfortable.
