Problems finding a familiy / Probleme eine Familie zu finden?

Do you have problems to find a host family?
Do you only receive very few phone calls?
Did you update your online-profile and possibly even got some more babysitting hours but have still no success?

On problem may be your “digital footprint”. Yes, you read right, you leave traces in the Internet and they can hurt you when searching for a family and also for a job.

How do I find my footprint?
Google yourself, search for your email-addresses and look at your Facebook, Twitter, Instagramm, Pinterest, Xing, LinkedIn,… and blog- and websites as being “not logged in”.

• What pictures can you see? Party, Alcohol,…?
• What information can you see?
• Which groups do you “like”?
• What movies do you watch?
• Which tweets do you repost?
• Which words do you use when posting publicly?

All those things can be found and possibly “used against you”.

What can you do?

Clean up, that includes privatizing your posts, clean-up your pictures, put a nice profile picture online. Your letter and your video should fit to your profile on the internet. I myself (Anja)  for example always search for the people that I am in contact and I am very sure that many host families or their current AuPairs do the same.

Your Internet-profil sare like a business card and a reference and they are easy to find…

So let’s go and so a “spring-cleanup”!

Habt ihr Probleme eine Gastfamilie zu finden?
Kommen nur ganz wenige Anrufe bei euch raus?
Ihr habt eure Bewerbung upgedatet und evtl. noch ein paar Babysitter-stunden gemacht und dennoch kein Erfolg?

Ein Problem könnte euer “Fußabdruck im Netz” sein. Ja, ihr habt richtig gelesen, ihr hinterlaßt Spuren im Netz und die können euch bei der Familiensuche wie auch bei der Jobsuche schaden.

Wie finde ich meinen Fußabdruck?
Googelt euch mal selbst, nach eurer Email-Adresse und schaut euch eure Facebook, Twitter, Instagramm, Pinterest, Xing, LinkedIn,… und Web- und Blogseiten als “Nicht-eingeloggter” an.

• Welche Bilder könnt ihr sehen? Party, Alkohol,…?
• Welche Informationen könnt ihr sehen?
• Welche Gruppen “liked” ihr?
• Welche Filme schaut ihr?
• Welche Tweets repostet ihr?
• Welche Wortwahl habt ihr bei public posts?

All solche Dinge können im Netz gefunden werden und ggf. “gegen euch verwendet werden”.

Was könnt ihr tun?
Räumt auf, d.h. privatisiert posts, säubert eure Bilder, stellt ein nettes Profilbild online. Euer Brief und eurer Video sollten möglichst auch zu eurem Profil im Internet passen. Ich selbst (Anja) suche zum Beispiel immer nach Informationen über Personen im Internet. Ich will wissen mit wem ich es zu tun habe und ich bin mir ziemlich sicher das es viele Gastfamilien und auch aktuelle AuPairs gibt, die dies auch tun.
Eure Internet-Profil-Seiten sind wie eine Visitenkarte und eine Referenz und ziemlich leicht zu finden…
